Job Summary:
The newly planned Department of Computer Science at Cleveland State University (CSU) invites applications for multiple Assistant College Lecturer positions in Computer Science (CS) /Data Science (DS), to begin on August 21, 2023. The new Department will offer BS degrees in Computer Science and Data Science, and MS degrees in Computer Science and Software Engineering starting Fall 2023. These programs currently reside in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. In addition, CS faculty actively participate in the college wide Ph.D. in Engineering degree program through the Computer Science PhD specialization. There are currently 17 full time CS faculty and approximately 300 undergraduate, and more than 600 graduate (Master’s and Ph.D) students. The Computer Science undergraduate program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The department also has an important role to play in the $565 million JobsOhio, Cleveland Innovation District project, towards the goal of creating more than 20,000 Ohio jobs over the next decade.
College Lecturers positions are non-tenure track full-time faculty positions focused on teaching with promotion and career advancement opportunities. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary is competitive with other research-intensive universities. Opportunities for summer teaching with further compensation is also available.
Responsibilities include teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level, student advising, and curriculum development for lecture and lab courses in Computer Science/Data Science. The typical teaching load is 24 credit hours (6-8 courses) per academic year.
Minimum Qualifications:
1) Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science or a closely related field;
2) Teaching experience at a university level;
2) Demonstrated ability to teach and interact with both undergraduate and graduate students; and
3) Good communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
1) Earned doctoral degree in computer science or a closely related field;
2) Three or more years of teaching experience;
3) Relevant industrial experience beneficial to CS/ DS curriculum development and CS/DS capstone project advising; and
4) The ability to contribute through teaching and/or service to the diversity, cultural sensitivity, and excellence of the academic community.
