The Student Success Center is seeking a part-time Success Coach to help provide academic and student development coaching, college transition services, and referral services to academic and non-academic support areas. The SSC Success Coach will manage a caseload of 20-30 students utilizing a case management approach to support academic success and retention. This position will work in close collaboration with students, faculty, and student support offices to help promote student success and assist with the development of success programming. The Student Success Coach reports directly to the Director of the Student Success Center.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Meet regularly with a caseload of 20-30 students throughout the academic year to provide both academic and non-academic support and referrals, in-person and utilizing available campus technology.
- Assess student needs, determine appropriate support, and provide follow-up communication and support.
- Provide general information about college programs, support services, and resources, and introduce students to critical deadlines, policies, and tools.
- Provides digital literacy support to students, through individual sessions and workshops, contributing to the integration and use of technology for academic and career success
- Monitor and track student progress and collect notes on student meetings.
- Provide advising and referrals to other services such as tutoring, accessibility services, academic and career planning, financial aid, bursar, records & registration, counseling etc.
- Maintain office hours for student meetings.
- Collaborate with others to provide individual and/or group advising to meet the personal, social, emotional, and academic needs of new and continuing students.
- Participate in SSC department meetings and campus professional development activities.
- Assist the SSC Director with data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or closely related field; with three (3) years' experience and/or training involving college admissions, academic advisement, career development, or program/project management; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. * Please note, candidates without a master’s degree are welcome to submit in writing precisely how their background and experience have prepared them with the equivalent combination of education, training and experience required for the responsibilities of this position.
- Technical proficiency in standard office software (MS Office), communication tools (Zoom), and learning management systems.
- Demonstrated passion for helping students attain their educational and career goals.
- Demonstrated experience and skills with one-on-one communication (i.e. teaching, coaching, mentoring, managing, etc.).
- Candidate must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage administrative tasks.
- Excellent judgement and respect for confidentiality. Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving/conflict resolution, and written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work with diverse students, assess needs, and provide appropriate academic support.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple situations and projects.
- Working knowledge of or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of campus policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.

- Experience or training in academic advising, teaching, social work, or counseling career skills.
- Training and presentation skills.
- Database and learning management system skills.
- Experience helping students with writing skills.
- Experience working in college setting or with college population, especially community college.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Experience working with students experiencing academic challenges for any reason, including but not limited to, a lack of academic preparation, skills, or motivation, or a diagnosis learning disability, attention deficit disorder, etc.
- An understanding of relevant theories and best practices relating to academic support and student persistence
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and/or weekends.
Salary and Benefit Information
Hourly rate $25.30, depending on qualifications. Some benefits include New York State Retirement options, supplemental retirement and life insurance options and employee tuition waiver.
