Job Description:
To coordinate the activities in the Nursing Skill Laboratory including scheduling, record keeping, maintenance of equipment and supplies and assisting faculty and students in the use of lab resources. Applicant's skill should include knowledge of current medical-surgical procedures, current best practices, and a technical ability to manage, maintain, and troubleshoot lab equipment and mannequins. Monday- Friday schedule, must be flexible with hours based off laboratory course/competency start times.
Essential Duties and Tasks include the following in addition to other assigned functions and responsibilities:
- Prepares and clears equipment and supplies for nursing skills lab classes
- Prepares and clears equipment in preparation for nursing course competencies
- Communicates with nursing faculty in preparation for skills lab, simulations, and competency preparations
- Ensures the lab is clean, safe, and organized
- Provides assistance to faculty and students in the use of laboratory resources
- Continually assesses functioning of laboratory equipment and arranges repairs/maintenance with vendors
- Completes calibration of simulators/mannequins prior to skills lab delivery
- Communicates and coordinates with equipment and supply vendors
- Promotes safe lab practices according to OSHA guidelines
- Follows guidelines in handling and disposing of hazardous materials
- Orders Lab Kits to correspond with college laboratory course offerings
- Participates in department meetings and department accreditation activities
- Participates in nursing budget meetings with the department head and department secretary
- Participates in skills lab manual revisions for all nursing courses
- Participates in skills lab preparation meetings for all courses
- Maintains statistics on student use of nursing skills lab outside of scheduled times (open lab)
- Maintains statistics on student learning activities offered in the nursing skills lab
- Develops and manages the schedule of the Open Lab and student lab worker schedule
- Hires, trains, and manages student lab workers in college laboratory duties
- Keeps track of equipment warranties and repairs
- Keeps inventory of capital and expandable items
- Keeps strict inventory of syringes
- Maintains an inventory of lab equipment/supplies and reorders supplies in collaboration with the department head and department secretary
- Keeps abreast of new equipment used in the field of nursing, and obtains information on said equipment for consideration of purchasing
Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Minimum AAS degree in nursing is required.
- At least two years' experience in acute care is preferred.
- Strong psychomotor skills necessary.
- Strong computer skills- knowledge of Excel and Word.
- Strong interpersonal skills, and time management skills.
Required Licensure: Valid New York State Registered Nurse license
Additional Information:
Conditions of employment: The nursing laboratory assistant is represented by Dutchess United Educators (DUE) as a non-teaching educator and is eligible to all rights and responsibilities as outlined in the agreement between DUE and the College.
Starting Salary Range: $47,000 - $60,000.
