MASTER IN PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT STUDIES PROGRAM
The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) at Florida International University (FIU) invites applications for the position of Program Director for the Master in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) Program. We seek a dynamic and visionary program leader with a passion for education, teaching excellence, learning, and innovation. The MPAS Program Director will be responsible for planning and overseeing the program’s mission, which is to prepare a diverse, dynamic workforce of competent and compassionate graduate-level health care professionals qualified to practice collaboratively in primary care and specialty interprofessional teams, serve their communities, and advance the physician assistant profession.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accreditation standards, program organization, administration, fiscal management, programmatic planning, continuous review, and quality improvement and analysis. In addition, the qualified candidate will be responsible for identifying appropriate clinical sites, and interacting with the Medical Director, principal instructional faculty, and staff in all activities that directly relate to the MPAS Program. The MPAS Program Director will work collaboratively with the Associate Dean for the MPAS Program to recruit, retain, and develop faculty and staff with skills and abilities appropriate to their positions. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker and will be supportive of a college culture grounded on collaboration and team-oriented leadership with active participation in departmental as well as in college and university-wide committees and meetings. Organizational responsibilities include curriculum development, teaching, faculty development, orientation and student events, collaboration with university support resources for communications and marketing, admissions, financial aid, registrar’s office, and student affairs. The MPAS Program Director will serve as the primary advocate for the program at all levels of FIU and HWCOM, for the greater physician assistant profession, and in the community including philanthropic efforts.
Minimum qualifications include a master’s level degree, current or emeritus certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, an active Florida Physician Assistant (PA) license (or be eligible to obtain a Florida Physician Assistant license at the time of hire), at least three (3) years of higher education experience, and relevant clinical experience.
Preferred qualifications include a strong record of teaching, service, and scholarship; evidence of previous leadership roles in continuous quality improvement and accreditation standards; involvement with academic strategic planning, curriculum planning, fiscal management, programmatic planning, program administration, faculty recruitment, program development, evaluation and continuous review. Establish effective collaborations within departments at University and extended community stakeholders. An ability to actively enhance and lead a culture that values diverse views and perspectives is highly desirable.
