Maintenance Manager
The Lemur Conservation Foundation is looking for a skilled and organized individual to manage the maintenance operations of our 130 acre lemur reserve in Myakka City, Florida. The position includes building and grounds maintenance, managing construction projects, providing security for the reserve, and preparing for and providing reserve orientation to visiting researchers as needed. On-site housing (2 BR, 1.5 BA) including utilities and internet is provided and required for the position unless residing within 20 miles of the reserve. This is a salaried position with full benefits, working five days per week with occasional maintenance emergency duties.
Essential Functions:
- Performs skilled trade work of masonry, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanics and welding
- Performs aspects of building maintenance including, but not limited to, drywall installation, cabinetry, flooring, and painting
- Installs and repairs fencing and electronet
- Operates and maintains light equipment such as tractors, chain saws, generators, trucks, ATVs, and occasionally light construction equipment
- Maintains shell roadways and firebreak paths around the reserve
- Performs landscaping of reserve grounds and lemur forests (e.g. mowing, trimming, clearing culverts)
- Performs water testing and treatment for wells
- Performs removal of trash and recyclable materials
- Works with husbandry staff and executive director to design and implement lemur enclosure improvements
- Coordinates and supervises contract maintenance workers (e.g. plumbers, electricians, AC technicians)
- Performs routine maintenance inspections of reserve grounds and buildings
- Keeps supervisor informed of key issues and coordinates repairs and maintenance with appropriate departments
- Assists with the preparation of maintenance and construction project budgets
- Maintains inventory of maintenance equipment and supplies and makes approved purchases
- Prepares researcher house for visiting scientists and assists with orientation to reserve as needed
- Participates in special events as needed
- Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area
Job Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of two years experience in construction or maintenance
- Physical capacity to perform outdoor labor and normal duties
- Valid driver's license along with good driving record and auto insurance is required
- Proof of negative TB test - Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office
