Fort Wayne, IN
THE OPPORTUNITY
Purdue University Fort Wayne, one of seven institutions and entities comprising the Purdue University public system in Indiana, seeks a creative, innovative, and entrepreneurial leader to serve as its next Dean of the College of Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science.
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Dean will lead ETCS to become a transformative, premier college of choice for students, faculty, and staff, providing a world-class engineering, polytechnic, computer science, and organizational leadership education through excellence in teaching and learning, research and innovation, and engagement, collaboration, and entrepreneurship.
For nearly 50 years, Purdue Fort Wayne has offered degrees in engineering and technology, providing exceptional hands-on education for students with diverse backgrounds from northeast Indiana and beyond. Students value the prestigious Purdue name and degree, and they experience the affordability and vibrance of being located in Indiana’s second-largest city. ETCS was formed in 1995 and boasts distinctive features, including rigorous academic programs, small class sizes, a small student-to-faculty ratio, and senior design capstone projects sponsored by regional and national industry. These attributes provide a student-centered learning environment where students collaborate on projects in and out of the classroom and are mentored by a highly qualified and dedicated faculty and supportive staff. In addition, strong industry-based partnerships have enriched the educational experience of ETCS students through internship and co-op programs. Graduates of ETCS programs contribute to the economic development of the region in health care, manufacturing, defense, biomedical, civil infrastructure, and other fields that serve the needs of northeast Indiana and beyond.
Working in collaboration with ETCS’s talented chairs and faculty, the next Dean will be a passionate, energetic champion for the educational mission and student success, teaching, and collaborative learning. The incoming Dean must be an exceptional communicator who is skilled at building relationships with internal and external partners, represent the college compellingly to stakeholders and donors, and demonstrate an uncompromising commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. They will leverage entrepreneurial opportunities outside the university and foster relationships with local K-12 schools and community colleges within Indiana and in neighboring states to create precollege-through-graduation and career-pathway opportunities. Success in the role will require an individual who can inspire and unify the community around shared priorities; continue to attract, retain, and cultivate talented faculty and diverse students; and empower a dedicated staff.
