Palliative Care Chaplain

Upstate Medical University is looking for a Palliative Care Chaplain to join their dynamic team of expert professionals.

The Palliative Care Chaplain follows up on all consult requests for Inpatient Palliative care teams for Spiritual Care. Answer all emergent and trauma requests for Inpatient Palliative care teams for Spiritual Care. Follow up on all Inpatient Palliative Spiritual Care referrals. Collaborate and consult with other Department of Spiritual Care chaplains and students, as well as community clergy, to triage spiritual care palliative care situations as needed. Serves as lead chaplain on the in-patient palliative care team.

Master's degree in Divinity/Theology or equivalency, endorsed and/or ordained and in good standing with one's faith tradition and a minimum of 2 years of experience working in a clinical setting plus excellent written/oral and interpersonal skills and ability to be a team player required. The ideal candidate will have 4 units (1600 hours) of Clinical Pastoral Education from the ACPE, and Board Certified or eligible by a national pastoral care organization. Current Board Chaplain Certification in the Association for Professional Chaplains/ The National Catholic Chaplains Association/ The National Association of Jewish Chaplains. Minimum of one year post CPE training experience in palliative care. Strong team building qualities, ability to work with complex clinical cases, strong spiritual assessment skills, experience as a hospice chaplain, strong education skills with other clinical staff, skilled in engaging with a variety of learners for collaboration and consultation. Passionate about palliative care and obtaining additional national certification, contributing to the palliative care literature, being involved locally, state, regionally and nationally in the palliative care and hospice movement.
