Alpha VesselCo, LLC (Abbeville, LA). 20 openings. Temp, Full Time job (4/2/18 to 11/2/18). Assist in the performance of all aspects of the purse boat operation. Tasks include, but are not limited to, working w/ nets, net deployment/retrieving equipment & bailing fish from net to the steamer. Fishermen are also responsible for maintaining vessel in a sanitary, organized condition. Complete all tasks safely. Report all hazards, accidents, injuries, or environmental excursions to Captain or a member of the mgmt team immediately. Follow all terms/conditions of Fisherman & Agreement.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6am-6pm, times may vary with a minimum of 35 hours/week. Hours are no set hours. Fishing duties to be performed only during daylight hours. Job requires 1 month purse seining experience. Must be able to work in cold, wet, hot, & humid weather & be able to work on feet in bent, stooped or standing positions for long periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs consistently all day long. Background check & post-offer, pre/post-employment drug screening will be carried out equally between the US workers & the H2B workers. Must pass post-offer, pre-employment physical exam at employer& expense. In addition to physical exam, new hires are subject to an MRI scan also at employer& expense. These requirements are for all US & H-2B workers. Observing safety procedures & the proper use of safety devices is a condition of employment.
Rate of Pay: $.49 piece rate per 1,000 fish caught ($.46 piece rate for fishermen w/ less than 2 years experience). However wage rate will in no case be less than $15.85/hour. Over Time not available. A single workweek will be used to compute wages due. Wages paid bi-weekly. All deductions from the worker & paycheck required by law will be made. Employer will provide workers at no charge all tools, supplies, & equipment required to perform the job. Employer guarantees to offer work for hours equal to at least three fourths of the workdays in each 12 week period of the total employment period. Employer will pay upfront for all visa, visa processing, border crossing, & other related fees, include those mandated by the government (excluding passport fees). Ground transportation to the place of employment will be provided by the employer at no cost to the worker (air travel paid upfront); Ground expenses & subsistence costs will be reimbursed to the worker during the first work week. Daily subsistence will be provided at a rate of $12.26 per day during travel to a maximum of $51.00 per day w/receipts. If the worker does not complete at least half of the employment period the worker is expected to refund the employer. Return transportation will be provided if the worker completes the employment period or is dismissed early by the employer. Housing is not available. However, accommodations on the vessel may be available when in port if required at no charge. Workers are provided a weekly meal allowance. Any overages above set meal allowance will be deducted from payroll biweekly as permitted. Job Order #801180.
